female winner: Germany - Martina Willing

Martina Willing is a double disability athlete, both blind and a paraplegic, from Germany . She won a silver medal in the shot event in Sydney. She has shown remarkable determination in overcoming the difficulties that came her way in the course of her career.

Blinded in her youth, she took up performance sport, and proved her versatility in both summer and winter sports disciplines. After winning a gold medal at the 1992 Paralympic Summer Games in Barcelona, she went on to win silver in the cross-country skiing team relay at the 1994 Paralympic Winter Games in Lillehammer . At the 1996 Paralympic in Atlanta , Willing won, as the only blind athlete in the wheelchair class, a gold medal in javelin.

     
 

male winner: Ivory Coast - Oumar B. Kone

Oumar Kone won the men ' s 400m race in the class T44-46 in 1:55.45 thus repeating his victory in the same race at the Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. He won his second Gold Medal in Sydney in the T 46 800m race and was fourth in the T 46 400m.
